BBC Worldwide will be announcing a new licensing deal at this year's Brand Licensing Show. For further information on this impending deal, please come and visit the stand on 25.10.05.
In addition, the BBC Worldwide stand will be showcasing the latest additions to its portfolio - Charlie and Lola, Doctor Who and Trollz, - and will be available to discuss its existing portfolio of exciting properties including Teletubbies, Tweenies, Fimbles, Mona the Vampire, thingy and Dom in Da Bungalow, Tikkabilla, Big Cook Little Cook, Match of the Day, Jack Frost and Andy Pandy.
Charlie and Lola
Charlie and Lola, currently airing on Playhouse Disney in the US and due to air on the BBC in November, is a visual feast for the pre-school audience from one of the UK's leading independent producers, Tiger Aspect Productions.
BBC Worldwide has signed a deal to license the 26 x 11'30" animated series, based on the award-winning books by children's author Lauren Child. The deal grants BBC Worldwide global licensing and merchandising rights for Charlie and Lola.
BBC Worldwide is looking forward to meeting partners who specialise in design and artistic gift products, which will reflect the unique design style of the programmes and the brand.
The mix of photomontage 2D CelAction animation reflects the distinctive cut-out style of the original picture books and the exuberance and imagination of the characters, seven-year-old Charlie and four year old sister Lola.
To meet Charlie and Lola is to instantly love them and every creative aspect of them, ensuring that this brand presents opportunities across a wide selection of categories for an initial product roll-out in Spring 2006. The first DVD of the series will be released in February 2006.
Doctor Who
The master toy licensee for Doctor Who, Character Group, have just launched their eagerly anticipated first toy range which includes a radio-controlled Dalek, walkie talkies of the new Slitheen Monster & the Doctor and battling daleks.
Character Groups range will be joined by further products including board games from Toybrokers, jigsaws from Ravensburger and stationery and tableware from DNC.
Following the huge success of the first series, which began airing on BBC ONE in March 2005, a second 13-part series and Christmas special have been produced. High-profile actor David Tennant, best known for the title role in the hugely well-received Casanova, steps into the role of the Doctor.
From exhilarating experiences to deadly confrontations, the alien Doctor opens the eyes of his earthly companion, Rose, to a whole new world.
During their epic adventures, the two become the best of friends as they encounter lethal enemies such as the Slitheen, the Gelth and the Doctor's Ultimate Enemy, the Daleks.
The second series also sees the return of the dreaded Cybermen.
Trollz
As the UK licensing agent for DIC Entertainment's major new global property Trollz, BBC Worldwide will oversee the development and UK launch of all non-toy Trollz product lines working alongside DIC's appointed global toy partner Hasbro and book publisher Scholastic as well as Ubisoft for software and One World for mobile phone applications.
BBC Worldwide has already signed deals for toiletries and haircare, greetings cards, bedding, bags, gifts, clothing and wheeled toys with other key partners and initial product will launch in 2006.
Trollz is a contemporary look at the wild-haired creatures that have captivated generations since the 50s, and stars a group of teen friends; likeable Amethyst, strong-willed Ruby, cool Onyx, dizzy Topaz and thoughtful Sapphire who live in a spectacular world of magic and 'spellz'.
Aimed at girls aged 6–9 years old, the Trollz website (www.trollz.com) launched in March 2005 and the Trollz animated series will be transmitted on BBC ONE and CBBC Channel from the Autumn.
