Toy Car Collectors Association Up For Grabs
13-year-old club devoted to automotive toys and models scheduled to cease operation as of December 31st, 2006
Related Website: Worldwide Resource Center for Toy Car Collectors Publish Date: 05/21/2006
The Full Story:
After thirteen years as club chairman, Mr. Dana Johnson will be ceasing operation of the Toy Car Collectors Association (TCCA) and the publishing of the club's 32-page bi-monthly Toy Car Collector Magazine.
Mr. Johnson originally started the TCCA in May 1993 as the Majorette Diecast Toy Collectors Association. However, due to the threat from Majorette of France of corporate control and licensing fees, the club was disbanded after publishing just one issue of its eight-page Majorette Toy Collector newsletter.
Eight months later, in November 1993, the club was reorganized into the more generic North American Diecast Toy Collectors Association (NADTCA). The club's name was eventually shortened to the Diecast Toy Collectors Association (DTCA) to reflect the club's growing international interest.
In the mid-Nineties, Mr. Johnson was hired to write for now-defunct Mobilia and Car Toys/Car Toy Collectibles magazines. Part of the compensation for writing for Mobilia included a free ad in the magazine. The result was a club membership that eventually grew to 450 members.
When Mobilia was purchased by Krause Publishing and incorporated into one of their other publications, Mr. Johnson ceased writing for them, and the free ad was dropped. With no more free advertising, and limited funds for paid advertising, membership gradually dropped to its current subscriber base of under 50 members.
On November 1st, 2000, the name of the club was changed to the Toy Car Collectors Association (TCCA) with its new Toy Car Collector Magazine beginning in January 2001. The new TCCA provides a broader focus that includes toy cars produced using other materials such as plastic, rubber, resin, tinplate, pressed steel and white metal.
The first issue of the reorganized club's new Toy Car Collector Magazine was published in January 2001, originally as a monthly magazine.
Although he will be stepping down as club chairman and publisher of the group's magazine, Mr. Johnson will continue operating under the auspices of his one-man company Dana Johnson Enterprises, his worldwide online resource center for toy car collectors at www.Toynutz.com, and his online catalog of automotive toys, models, collector's guides and other items at www17.serrahost.com/servlet/toynutzcom/StoreFront.
